The Challenges of Collecting Sexual Assault Data with Allen Beck

Allen Beck is the Senior Statistical Advisor at the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS). Dr. Beck has worked for BJS for over 32 years. He has written extensively on sexual victimization in prisons, jails, and juvenile facilities, providing detailed rankings for surveyed facilities, an assessment of risk among adults and juveniles under correctional supervision, an examination of facility characteristics associated with high rates of sexual abuse, and analyses of staff sexual misconduct. During this presentation, Dr. Beck will discuss the challenges of collecting data on sexual violence and his experience in meeting the requirements of the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003.
